The best chalets in Jordan to rent by the night are the ones that pair a high rating with a review count worth trusting, photos of the actual place, and a drive you will genuinely make. We picked five spread across four governorates: the Dead Sea, Jerash, Irbid and Ajloun. That spread is the point, because "the best chalet in Jordan" is a geography question before it is an amenity question.

One clarification before the list: everything here is rented by the night, not sold. Searches for chalets in Jordan mix rentals with property sales, and estate-agent listings creep in. How we chose the best chalets in Jordan

We used four checkable conditions rather than personal taste. First, a Google rating of 4.6 out of 5 or better across at least 50 reviews; five stars from three reviews tells you nothing, while 4.9 from 423 tells you a lot. Second, the photos: every chalet here shows nine real images, and we verify that each one is of the chalet whose page it sits on rather than a similar-looking place. Third, it has to take overnight stays, not day use only. Fourth, geographic spread.

The fourth condition is what made this hard. 255 of our chalets are at the Dead Sea alone, so filling all five slots from there would have been easy. But nobody searching for chalets in Jordan is asking about one area, so we took one each from Jerash, Irbid and Ajloun, and two from the Dead Sea because its size earns them.

Geography decides what "best" means

The difference between Jordan's chalet regions is a difference in elevation before anything else. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on the surface of the earth, roughly 430 metres below sea level, and its summer temperatures pass 40°C routinely. Ajloun sits at the other end at around 1,100 metres, and moving from the valley floor up into its hills can be close to a 10°C swing on the same day. Jerash falls between them on terraced hills, and Irbid is closer to open farmland. You choose the region first and the chalet second, not the other way round. Dead Sea: the widest choice and the warmest winter

The Dead Sea is Jordan's largest chalet region, with 255 listings on YallaChalet and 114 of them carrying more than twenty reviews. The chalets are not on the sand. Most are private-pool villas up in the Sweimeh hills, a 15 to 30 minute drive from the northern beaches. It is the best winter region in the country because the drop in elevation means warmer January days, and the hardest in July and August for exactly the same reason. Jerash and Ajloun: northern hills and a calmer summer

Northern Jordan is the summer answer. YallaChalet lists 12 chalets in Jerash and one in Ajloun. That is a small set, but it is one we know item by item: nine of the Jerash listings carry more than twenty reviews. You get the view and the temperature at once. A courtyard looking out over a valley of terraced hills instead of a neighbour's wall, and a summer night cool enough to want a blanket. Irbid: the farm belt and the biggest yards

The local term here is "farm and chalet", and it is a description rather than marketing: a fully walled courtyard, a pool, a barbecue corner, and land around the building instead of a unit inside a compound. Amman, in this list, is a starting point rather than a place to stay. We list no chalet inside the city, and most people booking in Jordan set off from it, either down to the valley or north into the hills.

What actually sets the price

The owner sets the price, not us, and it reaches you on WhatsApp before you pay anything. Four things move the number in every region: weekend versus weekday, the season, winter pool heating, and how many people are coming. Demand for chalets in Jordan peaks in July, which is the month the highest-rated places disappear first. Pool heating is genuinely rare: of our 437 chalets, 19 have an indoor pool and exactly one has a heated pool, which on its own explains the gap between a December night and a July one.

Booking tips

• Read the review count, not just the rating. 4.8 from 137 reviews is a stronger signal than 5.0 from four.
• Ask about the pool specifically: open or indoor, heated or not. Of our 437 chalets, 374 have a pool, but only one is heated and 19 are indoor.
• Settle the region before the chalet. The region fixes the temperature, the scenery and the time on the road; the chalet only fixes the details.
• Book early for summer holidays and Eid. July is the busiest month for chalets in Jordan, and asking an owner about their dates in June is a much easier conversation than asking in July.
