Dead Sea vs Ajloun vs Aqaba: which chalet trip fits you?

Three of Jordan's most popular chalet regions pull in completely different directions. The Dead Sea is the warm, low, float-and-mud escape an hour from Amman. Ajloun is the green, cool, forested north, best when the rest of the country bakes. Aqaba is the Red Sea, real swimming and snorkelling, four hours south. The right choice mostly comes down to the season and how far you want to drive.

Dead Sea: the easy warm escape
Closest to Amman and the simplest weekend. You float in water you cannot sink in, coat yourself in mineral mud, and most chalets give you a private freshwater pool to actually swim in. It is at its best in spring, autumn, and even mild winter afternoons, but harsh at midday in summer. Palms Chalet, rated 4.7 and sleeping 12 with a pool and garden, is a strong large-group pick. Start on the Dead Sea area page. If a private pool is your priority, see our guide to Dead Sea chalets with a private pool.
Ajloun: green, cool, and made for summer
When Amman and the Dead Sea are too hot, the northern forests are the answer. Ajloun sits higher and cooler, with pine and oak hills, the castle, and the forest reserve. Chalets here lean rustic, often with a wood fireplace for the cooler nights. Sanabel Chalet, rated 4.5, is a mountain chalet with a fireplace and forest views. This is the one region on the list that is best in summer. Browse the Ajloun area page.
Aqaba: the Red Sea, for actual swimming
The longest drive and the only place you genuinely swim and snorkel. Aqaba is warm coral reef, clear water, and beach chalets, four hours south or a short domestic flight. It is best from autumn through spring; high summer on the coast is hot. Pearl Chalet, rated 4.8, is a beachfront chalet for larger groups. See the Aqaba area page.
Common questions
Which is best for a quick weekend from Amman? The Dead Sea. One hour each way leaves the whole weekend for the trip itself.
Where should we go in summer? Ajloun. The northern forests stay cool when the Dead Sea and the valleys are too hot.
Where can we actually swim? Aqaba, for the Red Sea. At the Dead Sea you float but do not swim, so the chalet pool is where swimming happens. Ajloun is pools only.
Which is cheapest? They overlap a lot. Group size and weekend versus midweek move the price more than the region does. Our Dead Sea price guide breaks down the numbers for one region.
Whichever you choose, you message the chalet owner directly on WhatsApp from the listing, with no commission added. Compare all three regions from the areas overview and pick your dates.
